February 26, 2009 - 2nd Annual Winter Career Panel
The unemployment rate has reached 7.8%, and it seems like no companies are hiring anymore. For students who aspire to get into the business field, the forecast looks very gloomy. However, the Finance & Investment Club has brought in professionals from many different fields to answer all of your questions. Not sure about which career path to take? Can't seem to find a way to break into your ideal career? All these questions and many more will be answered in our Second Annual Career Panel. We will be joined by the following Ernst & Young, Deloitte Consulting, Washington Mutual, Enterprise, and Travelers Insurance. You will have the opportunity to learn more from their personal endeavors. How did they choose their careers? What is their respective industry like? Am I cut out for a career in accounting, consulting, commercial banking, corporate finance, or insurance? You will learn from their steps and their experiences and come away with a better picture of what you would like to do with your life after graduation. You might even gain a step on your peers in regards to internship/career opportunities.

Have you ever wondered how to make your money work for you? Do you have an interest in investing? Then come join the Finance and Investment Club as we explore the basics of investing in the stock market! We will teach the basic information to jump start your investing career in a fun, interactive way. Free pizza will be provided, and a prize will be given to the winning team of our stock market simulation! All grades and majors are invited to come to this educational event.

Come join FIC on Thursday night as Yee Ong, a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) with YSO Capital Management joins us to talk about how a CFA goes about analyzing investments and what opportunities he sees in Asia. Yee is the President & Portfolio Manager of a fund focusing on investments for high-net worth individuals, and has previously worked for likes of Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley, and Citigroup. Learn more about two of the most lucrative stock markets in the world and how you can profit from them. You will also have the opportunity to ask Yee for career advice and network with FIC members.

Not sure about what you can do with your degree after graduating? Still unsure about which career path to take? Students have been searching for the answers to these questions ever since they arrived at the UC Davis campus. Where can you find some answers to these questions? We will be joined by representatives from: Northwestern Mutual, Triage Consulting, California State Auditor, Washington Mutual, and Deloitte. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the personal endeavors of each one of the panelists. How did they choose their careers? How did they prepare themselves for careers in consulting, accounting, and financial services? You will have the opportunity to learn from their experiences. By attending, you can come away with a much better picture of what you can do with your life after graduation. In addition, you will have the chance to speak with these representatives after all the questions have been answered. During this time, you can: pass along your resume, inquire about the internship/career opportunities, learn more about the firm, or do all three!
